Why the Name "Tippit Tea"?

Why the Name "Tippit Tea"?

Naming a business is no easy task. Since the idea of starting a boba business emerged, we have been tirelessly brainstorming for a catchy name that can represent our business.

We first thought of the name "KaraTEA" (karate) just to throw off Kung Fu Tea, our biggest competition around the CWRU campus. Then, we thought of the name "APE Tea", which is an acronym for the co-founder's first names, Andrew, Patrick, and Elwin. We even thought about buying a Bored Ape NFT as our logo.

Finally, a light-bulb moment occurred. Since the business was founded in Patrick and Andrew's Tippit House dormitory, we thought to ourselves, why not just name the business "Tippit Tea"? It is very catchy, and provides a subtle connection to CWRU. Additionally, "Tippit Tea" sounds identical to "TP Tea", the subsidiary chain of Chun Shui Tang, which invented boba tea back in 1987. Naming ourselves "Tippit Tea" allowed us to subtly pay tribute to the inventor of this cultural beverage.

We hope you enjoyed this fun fact about our business! As usual, please stop by South Side Scholar for a cup of our refreshing drink, and don't forget to #tippit(the cup) n' sippit(the tea)!!
